Kittiwake Dance Theatre returns to the Arts and Culture Centre for its Twenty-first season with a new production of the Christmas Classic; New first act, new costumes and new sets under the direction of newly appointed artistic director Martin Vallee and associate director Jennifer Foley.
It is Christmas Eve at the Stahlbaum house, the maids can be seen doing the last minute cleaning and the family begins to decorate, and prepare for the guests to arrive. Once the guests have arrived, and the party begins, the mysterious visitor, Drosselmeyer, enters, distributing gifts to the children. A very special one goes to Clara - a Nutcracker.

In a fit of jealousy, Clara's brother, Fritz, grabs the Nutcracker and breaks it. Clara is heart broken, and, after the guests leave, she falls asleep thinking about her Nutcracker. In her dream, the Nutcracker and his soldiers defend her against the King of the Mice. The Nutcracker then magically turns into a Prince, who takes her on a fabulous journey through a snowstorm to the Kingdom of Sweets, where she meets fascinating and magical characters, including the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Kittiwake Dance Theatre's annual production of THE NUTCRACKER has become a Christmas Tradition for St. John's audiences, holding as cherished a place as Aunt Mary's fruitcake, or Grandmother's plum pudding. Watch the children's eyes shine as they follow Clara on her magical adventures in the Kingdom of Sweets. Celebrate this very special time with a visit to a very special version of this Christmas classic, as performed by Kittiwake Dance Theatre. It will leave you with visions of sugar plums dancing in your head.
